Private pottery lessons in East London

Learn to throw on the wheel with me in my cosy garden studio.

1:1 Wheel Throwing Classes

Join me in my cosy studio at the end of my garden for a 1:1 pottery lesson, where you’ll get your hands dirty and learn how to throw pottery on a wheel.

Wether you’ve always wanted to have a go on a wheel, want to build on your skills or you have a project in mind (a mug for mothers day perhaps…) private classes are a great way to accelerate your skills - and make sure you leave with your own handmade pieces.

  • A 2 hour session for beginners who want to have a go at throwing on the wheel.

In this session we’ll touch on the entire process of throwing a pot. Centring, pulling up and down and shaping, but the main goal will be for you to leave with something you made.

I’ll give you a few demonstrations if you need them and be with you for the duration guiding you through the steps.

I’ll prepare all of your clay and clean for you to give you maximum time on the wheel. And then I’ll trim and glaze your work, which you can collect after 4 weeks.

  • A regular slot of 2.5 hours per class for 5 consecutive weeks, this course is for anyone who’s interested in developing a more in-depth knowledge of the process including trimming and glazing your pieces.

It’s open to all levels - whether you’re a complete beginner who wants a fast track intro into the full process of making pottery, or someone with more experience who’s got a project in mind that you’d like time and support to make over the course - we’ll tailor the course to meet your level and goals.

  • This is a 1hr session for anyone who’s thinking about setting up a home studio in a small space and doesn’t quite know where to start…

I’ll walk you through all of the processes, tools and things I’ve set up to allow me to work entirely from my garden studio.

This is available in person at my studio, or over zoom.

Laid back

Learn in a cosy home studio, with music, snacks and drinks. You’ll get high quality teaching that doesn't feel too scary…

Private and tailored

Feel confident to try (and fail a few times, like I did) in a private class. And I'll be there to help make progress quickly.

Yours to keep

You’ll keep everything you make. If you’re only doing a single taster, I’ll trim and glaze it for you for collection 4 weeks after your class.

All about throwing

I’ll make sure you have much time on the wheel as possible. With no waiting to get started, long demos or waiting for your turn.

  • "I was scared I'd be rubbish, and I was at first. But Lulu helped me quickly figure out what I was doing wrong and it all turned around. I made a bowl and had an absolute blast. Can't wait to come back."

Your Questions, Answered

  • Taster session: We’ll cover centring, pulling and shaping pieces on the wheel. I’ll do demos and to make sure you have maximum time on the wheel, I”ll do the clay prep and clean up.

If you’d like to work on a particular project - just let me know at the beginning of the course (or in your enquiry email) and we can figure out how best to use your time to make it happen.

I’ll tailor each week to your level and goals.

If you’re unable to commit to a regular weekly slot, still get in touch and let me know - there might be a way to work out a more flexible package if that dates and stars align.

  • My studio is at the end of my garden, in Walthamstow, East London. (45 Liverpool Rd, E10 6DN).

As it’s at the end of my garden, we’ll need to walk through my kitchen (where we’ll grab some drinks and snacks) to get to it.

The space is small, but adapted to perfectly suit 1:1 classes. It’s fully heated, and it’s been described ‘cutttteee’. Which I do agree with…

I do have a big, fluffy, friendly Chow Chow dog called Iggy. Who I can make sure is out of the way for a class if you’re not a dog person.

  • To book in, send a message via the enquiry form - letting me know which slots you’d be interested in. I’ll then get back to you via email to let you know availability, and we’ll take it from there.

  • Nope. I have an apron you can use, but do feel free to bring your own if you’d prefer. Otherwise, I’ll provide all that you need.

I would suggest that you wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little mucky.

  • I’ll give short demos, and be on hand throughout to guide you - but largely I believe that the most progress in pottery is made through working with the clay as much possible. So I will expect for you to be at the wheel for 90% of the class - using as much clay as you need to get it right.

I’m not formally trained, and I am not a formal person. I’ll play music, offer you drinks and expect to have a bit of a giggle here and there.

I’ll tailor the classes around your level and learning style - whether you want a little space to practice or to get really into the detail.

I have been exactly where you are - and know how it feels to try a new skill. The learning curve is steep. So my classes will be zero-pressure, zero judgement designed to make you come out loving pottery and making progress each time.

  • Absolutely! I actually started pottery because my husband bought me a class for Christmas so I’d love to meet the next me…

I offer gift cards for both the taster and 5 week courses, which you can order now.

Once you’ve gifted the course, the lucky owner of the gift card can just pop me an email via the enquiry form and I’ll arrange to book in a class directly with them.

  • A full refund is possible if the course or lesson is cancelled up to 1 month before the starting date.

Between 2-4 weeks - you’ll get 50% refund, and if you cancel less than 2 weeks before the start of the course or lesson, unfortunately, a refund isn't possible and and either we’ll need to reschedule, or the reservation will be lost.

If you're interested in taking a class - fill in the form and I’ll get back to you within 48hours with availability.
